Description

On April 13th, we will hear remarks from Professor Gene Miller, Lecturer and Director for Socially Responsible Leadership at Brandeis University and International Business School. Professor Miller lives in a visionary world, rooted in tactical success. Throughout it all her modus operandi has been predicated on a simple approach to tackle complex matters; research the past, canvas all types of viewpoints and expertise in the present, develop the strategy, and then build a team of teams to achieve what might be viewed from the outset, as unimaginable future success. She began her career in banking and by her early thirties had risen to Executive Vice President of Sterling Bank where she became to architect and implementer of a novel approach to a complex financial turnaround in a dismal banking era. Sterling would be an early success in its industry as banks returned to profitability, affording unique acquisition opportunities and ultimately unparalleled financial success. In the period that followed, Gene’s innovative approach to organizational challenge would include being part of a team of 8 outside Trustees in the high-profile turnaround of Newton Wellesley Hospital. She also led the pioneering phase in the development of national model building housing for homeless seniors for HEARTH. And then she spent 6 years building out the award-winning FUEL Education (Inversant) as its founding COO that took a novel 'skin in the game' approach to underserved families around scaling college success. Professor Miller currently is Director of Socially Responsible Leadership and teaches management consulting and leadership in the social innovation space at Brandeis University’s International Business School, all in an experiential format in courses that she created. At Brandeis, she also is the cofounder of Deis Hacks for Social Good (hackathon for social impact) with co conspirator Ian Roy, Director of the Brandeis MakerLab. She has served on numerous corporate and not for profit boards including her current roles: Clipper Ship Foundation where she is Board Treasurer and Commonwealth Corporation to which Governor Baker recently appointed her and she is Board Treasurer.
